  • Alleviate back pain.
  • Enhance immunity by stimulating lymph flow and natural defense systems.

  • Improve the condition of the body’s largest organ—the skin.
  • Increase joint flexibility and increase range and motion.

  • Promote tissue regeneration, reducing scar tissue.
  • Increase circulation and thereby facilitate healing.
  • Relax and soften injured, tired, and overused muscles from repetitive stress.
  • Release endorphins—that work as the body’s natural painkiller, thereby easing chronic pain from conditions like fibromyalgia and arthritis.
  • Relieve migraine pain.

A Powerful Tool for a Happier, Healthier Life

There’s no denying the power of bodywork.  Regardless of the adjectives we assign to it (pampering, rejuvenating, therapeutic) or the reasons we seek it out (a luxurious treat, stress relief, pain management), massage therapy can be a powerful tool in your health regime.

It is estimated that over 85 percent of disease is stress related.  Perhaps, nothing ages us faster, internally and externally, than chronic stress.  Eliminating anxiety and stress completely is highly unlikely.  The idea is that massage can help manage stress and lessen the effects of stress on our bodies and our lives.  The benefits specifically are most commonly experienced as:

  • Decreased stress
  • Increased energy
  • Better quality of sleep
  • Better concentration
  • Less fatigue
  • Increased emotional stability

Medical research is proving more and more specific benefits to a wide variety of conditions and needs.  It has become commonplace for medical doctors as well as alternative practitioners to recommend massage as a part of a regular health regime to their patients.  Regular massage has increased benefits of maintaining optimum health and wellness.  Consider massage appointments a necessary piece of your health and wellness plan.

Our belief in this principal is why we created our massage club, massageworks, so people could access to affordable quality massages as a integral part of their healthcare.

FAQ

Where will my massage session take place?

Your massage will take place in a comfortable, quiet room.  Soft music may be played to help you relax.  You will lie on a table especially designed for your comfort.

Who will perform the massage?

All employed massageworks therapists at the Family Chiropractic Center are licensed, experienced massage therapists.  Each therapist offers unique set of skills and training.  Please discuss your specific requests and concerns when scheduling to be directed to the therapist who best matches your needs.

Do I have to be completely undressed?

Most traditional massages are performed with the client unclothed; however, it is entirely up to you what you want to wear.  You should undress to your level of comfort.  You will be draped during the entire session.  The practitioner will leave the room while you undress, relax onto the table, and cover with a clean sheet.  You will be properly draped at all times to keep warm and comfortable.  Only the area being worked on will be exposed.

What parts of my body will be massaged?

You and the therapist will discuss the issues and needs.  This will determine which parts of your body require massage.  A typical full body session will include work on your back, arms, legs, feet, hands, head, neck and shoulders.  You will not be touched on or near any private parts, stomach or abdomen.

Are there different kinds of massage?

There are numerous types of massage; various techniques utilize different strokes, including basic rubbing strokes, rocking movements, posture and movement reeducation, application of pressure to specific points, and more.  Your therapist will discuss you preferences and check in with you throughout the session regarding how much pressure is good for you.

How long will the session last?

The average full-body massage session lasts approximately one hour.  A half-hour appointment allows time for a target area massage session such as neck and shoulders, back or legs and feet.  Many people prefer 90 minute sessions for optimal relaxation.

What should I do during the massage session?

Feel free to ask the therapist any questions about the session.  During the massage, make yourself comfortable.  The therapist will either gently move you or tell you what is needed throughout the session (such as lifting your arm).  Most people just close their eyes and completely relax; communicating if/when they need more or less pressure or another blanket.

How will I feel after the massage session?

Most people feel very relaxed.  It is recommended you drink plenty of water following your massage to flush out lactic acid that is released from the muscles and any toxins that have been flushed from the lymphatic system.

Are there any medical contraindications for massage?

Yes.  That’s why it is imperative that, before you begin your session, the therapist asks general health questions.  It is very important that you inform the therapist of any health problems.  If you are under a doctor’s care, it is strongly advised that you receive written recommendations for massage prior to any session.
